Presidents Monthly Letter

Maybe summer is finally coming to an end.  The boys with Champion have not minded the heat for our greens.  In fact, several of the bentgrass guys have done very well with the absence of the afternoon thunderstorms.  It sure has been hot though.  Almost unbearable to work outside when it is 100 and humid.  I am ready to relax a little bit and enjoy some of that nice Eastern NC weather.  We had a warm breezy evening at the Kinston Indians ball game.  There were around 50 people in our group.  That was a nice turnout.  The atmosphere was excellent and the ball game was enjoyable.  The food and hospitality were very good as well.  Our seats could not have been better.  I left right before the first rain drops fell and I am not even sure if the game finished or not but the K-Tribe was down by a run at that point.  Thanks to Tommy Walston for helping getting us set up at the game.  Great job on the turf Tommy.  The field was awesome looking.  What a great place to play ball.  Our next meeting will be in Smithfield at the Cardinal CC on Tuesday, September 18th.  Roger Olmstead, superintendent, has done a wonderful job with the golf course all year.  Thanks to Roger for stepping up to host this meeting.  Our speaker will be George Frye.  George Frye will give a presentation on Champion Bermuda grass.  George is never at a loss for words so it should be a great meeting.  Lunch and golf will follow.  See you there.  Good luck to all the kids headed back to school this week.

Thanks,

David Jacob, CGCS, President ENCTA
